How Do You Measure Your Social Networking ROI?

This morning came across an article from WebProNews.com which mentioned that a high number of businesses are still only experimenting with social media and that 61% of them have a difficult time measuring ROI.
Social networking takes on many forms. One can spend an entire day doing all sorts of social networking but is there anything out there that can help business owners or SEMs paint a clear picture of how their money and time is being spent and what the return for that investment could be?
From my perspective I’m watching traffic, inbound links and connections but turning these things into dollar values seems to only be had if I use traffic increases as a metric. What are the other ways?
